Good garden lighting helps people move, gather and notice texture. It does not try to illuminate every leaf. Begin with the route from the house, then add lower pools of light where people pause.
Use three quiet layers
Combine low path lighting, warm light near seating and one or two accents on a tree or textured wall. Keep colour temperature consistent so the garden reads as one place.
Protect the night
Direct fittings downwards, avoid glare at eye level and use timers. Dark areas between lit zones make the composition richer while reducing energy use and disturbance to wildlife.
